Balancing Color
icon1 Administrator | icon2 Painting Tips | icon4 07 1st, 2008| icon3No Comments »

Try not to divide any element in your artwork in half. This especially includes the temperature of the painting.

What I mean is - it shouldn’t be half warm and half cool. Warm colors are like fire - red, orange, yellow and brown. Cool colors are like water and grass - blue and green.

If your painting is mostly warm, add a little cool for contrast. If it’s mostly cool, add a little warm to spice it up.

Want to improve your drawing skills, but don’t know how? Here are a few things to get you started.

  1. The first step to improving your drawing skills to fill your head with ideas. I highly recommend doing a Google search on terms like “line drawings”, “Charcoal drawings”, “line art”. This will help you find images that you can study. I also recommend using Firefox to do your searches as there are many plugins available for image searching. One that I use is called PicLens, you can get it at http://www.piclens.com/site/firefox/win/
  2. Duplicate the Masters. When trying to learn to draw, why reinvent the wheel? Look online or go to your local art store or library and look up a few Master Artists, Monet, Manet, Degas, Rembrant, or DiVinci. Study their line drawing and see the quality of the lines. Particularly look at how their lines were crafted. You will notice; thick, thin, soft, hard and other variations of line. Try to duplicate these lines and notice they are rarely consistent throughout a drawing. The more variation, the more realism will emerge from your work.

What is a custom pet portrait?

A custom pet portrait is a portrait of a cat, dog, horse or other pet. In the world of art it has always been traditional to do portraits, but pet portraits are a bit more unique. Pet portraits are a great gift idea for pet lovers or to simply have a keepsake, sentimental possession of your pet.
Generally you can commission a professional animal artist to paint a portrait of your pet.

Tips on Custom Dog Portraits.

When commissioning an artist to paint your dog portrait, it is important to submit several, well taken photos of your dog. Every pet has a special personality, and it must come across in your photos. Using a digital camera, you should be able to capture the best photos of your dog. The nice thing about using a digital camera, is that you don’t have to get the perfect shot on the first try. Take photos of your dog from several angles, and different times of the day. Just like humans, pets can have different moods throughout the day, so make sure you capture that moment when your dog really shows his/her personality. Another great idea is to take your dog to a park and let them run around and play. If your dog likes to play catch, bring a ball or frisbe along so that you can get a variety of action shots. Make sure your camera can capture the motion at a high speed, otherwise you’ll just end up with a bunch of blurry shots.
